Member Spotlight Sign-ups

So many of our Guild members have quilt-related businesses, work with different fabric lines as ambassadors, or teach classes locally and at Quilt-Con, and we want to know more!  If you are willing to share your story, talents, products, please look for the sign-up sheet at February’s meeting and we look forward to scheduling a small spot for you at a future meeting.

Notion of the Month Sign-ups

From Cami Munk

At our February meeting, we’ll have a sign-up sheet for our notion of the month moment. Choose your favorite notion, purchase one, and bring it to the meeting. You’ll have time to explain why you love it and then one lucky member chosen randomly will win your notion. And the entire guild will learn something new. I’ve purchased at least 10 notions that were shared at our meetings.

Note – the guild will reimburse you up to $20 for your notion purchase. Save your receipt and give it to our treasurer, Andrea Steenburgh.

Salt Lake MQG Retreat

November 14-17, 2024

Location:

The Quilter’s Lodge Retreat Center
12224 S 900 E
Draper, Utah 84020

Overview

The Annual 2024 Salt Lake MQG Retreat is on the calendar and registration is now open! We will be implementing a new tiered registration system this year in hopes to smoothly prioritize registering all overnight attendees. Please see the Members’ newsletter for registration dates, form and the special offer for early-bird registration!

We love gathering for this tradition before the holiday season is in full swing to spend some much needed time as a guild creating, relaxing, and making new friends! With on-site lodging, a full kitchen, a large sewing space, giant design walls, pressing stations, and cutting stations, they have everything all set up for us! Additionally, the adjoining fabric shop makes last-minute purchases a breeze AND they offer our members 10% off throughout the retreat!

This year, we will be adding a couple of games, an optional project instruction time, and will be hoping to complete a few charity quilts as a group in between our sewing/eating/sleeping/repeating!

2024 – Guild Challenge

This year the Guild has chosen Modern Traditionalism as our year long challenge.

Modern Traditionalism combines traditional techniques with contemporary design. This style celebrates the craftsmanship and history of quilting and reflects the evolving tastes and creative vision of today’s quilters.

The challenge will be introduced at the March Guild meeting and the parameters are as listed below :

  • Overall design is to fit the themed challenge of ‘Modern Traditionalism’;
  • Your piece must include one or more shades of blue;
  • Projects are to be finished quilts can be of any size from 24″ up to 96″ (wall, crib, lap, throw +);
  • Quilt design does not have to be original. Quilts made from patterns are very welcome;
  • Quilts will be displayed at a group exhibit in early 2025 (date and location TBD) and must be retained (don’t gift it!) until the exhibit’s close date;
  • Quilts must be completed by the November 21st guild meeting.

Modern traditionalism draws inspiration from traditional quilt patterns, such as log cabins or flying geese, but reinterpret them using bold colors, unconventional fabrics, and innovative construction methods.
